With the Pro Day's winding up we update our mock draft - getting close to the big weekend now!
#1 - Indianapolis, Andrew Luck QB, Stanford (underclassman)
Needs: QB, CB, OC, OT - BPA vs Need Quotient=5.7
With Peyton Manning going to Denver, Luck is as sure as it goes for the top spot.
#2 - Washington (from St. Louis), Robert Griffin III-Quarterback, Baylor
Needs: QB, RB, CB, ROT, WR - BNQ=5.8
The Redskins have made the trade and RGIII is going to Washington.
#3 Minnesota, Justin Blackmon-Wide Receiver, Oklahoma State
Needs: CB, DB, DT, WR, OL - BNQ=2.7
There is no doubt the biggest need for the Vikings is corner and Morris Claiborne is available but Minnesota want a number one target for young QB Christian Ponder and see Blackmon doing for him what AJ Green did for Andy Dalton in Cincinnati last year.
#4 Cleveland, Trent Richardson-Halfback, Alabama (underclassman)
Needs: QB, ROT, RB, WR, DB - BNQ=4.0
The Browns could reach for Ryan Tannehill but it seems more likely they will take their chances with Richardson. Kalil is another option but with 5 time pro bowler Joe Thomas at left tackle it may be an overpay for a right tackle.
#5 - Tampa Bay, Matt Kalil-Offensive Tackle, USC (underclassman)
Needs: OLB, ILB, RB, CB, OL - BNQ=5.4
The Bucs are desperate to trade down unless Trent Richardson is available. Unfortunately without Blackmon or Richardson available it leaves slim pickings for viable trade partners. Alternatively they will take the BPA in Matt Kalil who is a steal at #5.
#6 St. Louis (from Washington), Morris Claiborne-Cornerback, LSU (underclassman)
Needs: OLB, DT, LOT, WR, CB - BNQ=4.5
Claiborne is the last of the six elite players in this draft and unless the Rams want to find a trade partner they will take him over reaching for an outside linebacker or defensive tackle.
#7 Jacksonville, Melvin Ingram-Defensive End, South Carolina
Needs: WR, DE, CB, OL, TE - BNQ=5.5
Melvin Ingram has 19 sacks in 2 seasons. He will be a huge upgrade to Jacksonville’s DE position and edges out similarly ranked Quinton Coples.
#8 Miami, Quinton Coples-Defensive End, North Carolina
Needs: ROT, DE, OL, TE, FS - BNQ=3.4
Miami may go for QB Ryan Tannehill but Coples is a big upgrade to a position of need and will be hard to ignore.
#9 - Carolina, David DeCastro-Offensive Guard, Stanford
Needs: WR, DT, OG, DB - BNQ=4.0
DeCastro or Fletcher Cox. They are both strong picks that fill a need but in the end DeCastro seems like a plug and play kind of guy that should be in the league for 10 years.
#10 - Buffalo, Riley Reiff-Offensive Tackle, Iowa (underclassman)
Needs: LOT, CB, WR, OLB - BNQ=4.9
Reiff has dropped in some people’s boards due to having short arms and a less than impressive combine. Still if you look at the tape it is hard not to come away satisfied the Iowa underclassman has plenty to offer and with the Bills losing 2011 starting left tackle Demetrius Bell to the Eagles it seems like a perfect match.
#11 Kansas City, Dontari Poe-Nose Tackle, Memphis
Needs: NT, ILB, OT, QB, WR = BNQ=3.9
The Chiefs have a few needs and Jonathan Martin, Luke Kuechly or Ryan Tannehill all fit here but Dontari Poe is becoming the sensation of the draft and with Nose Tackle one of the hardest positions to fill in the NFL the Chiefs may make their move in such a direction. Kuechly is another strong possibility.
#12 Seattle, Michael Floyd-Wide Receiver, Notre Dame
Needs: OLB, DE, WR, DT - BNQ=4.5
Seattle are one of a number of teams looking to upgrade their receiver corps. If Floyd falls outside the top ten they won’t be able to get their card in quick enough.
#13 - Arizona, Luke Kuechly-Inside Linebacker, Boston College (underclassman)
Needs: LB, CB, RB, OL, DB - BNQ=5.4
It’s a need meets great pick for the Cardinals.
#14 - Dallas TRADE with Cleveland, Ryan Tannehill-Quarterback, Texas A&M
The Browns just aren’t convinced on current QB Colt McCoy and if Tannehill drops out of the top ten they should be willing to go chasing him with their spare pick from Atlanta from last year’s draft the bait.
#15 - Philadephia, Fletcher Cox-Defensive End/Tackle, Mississippi State
Needs: ILB, OLB, SS, OL - BNQ=4.1
The Eagles want to get bigger across the front seven. They had their eyes on Luke Kuelchy but Fletcher Cox is a pretty good second prize.
#16 – NY Jets, Courtney Upshaw-Outside Linebacker/Defensive End, Alabama
Needs: OLB, OL, DB - BNQ=6.3
Pass Rush. Strangely missing from a Ryan coached team. Upshaw will upgrade immediately.
#17 - Cincinnati (from Oakland), Dre Kirkpatrick-Cornerback/Punt Returner, Alabama (underclassman)
Needs: RB, DB, OLB, OT - BNQ=5.3
Kirkpatrick is a top ten talent with a single off-field issue clouding his draft day. However the Bengals have a precedence of taking chances on players with off-field issues and will find Kirkpatrick’s talent hard to ignore at #17.
#18 - San Diego, Whitney Mercilus-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Illinois
Needs: ROT, CB, ILB, OLB, OL - BNQ=3.7
The Chargers will upgrade their pass rush immediately with Mercilus and fill a need at outside linebacker.
#19 - Chicago, Jonathan Martin-Offensive Tackle, Stanford (underclassman)
Needs: OL, RB, DB, WR, TE - BNQ=5.0
With Mike Tice taking over the Offensive Coordinator post and Brandon Marshall rectifying some of the Bears receiver woes it seems high time Chicago bite the bullet and draft a quality OT in the 1st round.
#20 - Tennessee, Kendall Wright-Wide Receiver/Kick Returner, Baylor
Needs: DE, OC, WR, DB, OG - BNQ=4.4
Michael Brockers and Jerel Worthy are strong possibilities to land in Tennessee but the Titans need more than Kenny Britt as a deep threat and Kendall Wright could be the most underrated receiver in the draft and a steal at #20.
#21 - Cincinnati, Michael Brockers-Defensive Tackle, LSU
It’s highly unlikely Brockers falls this far but if he does we just can’t see how the Bengals would ignore him despite having more of a need at OT, OLB or RB. Cordy Glenn is another possibility.
#22 – Dallas (from Atlanta through Cleveland), Stephen Gilmore-Cornerback, South Carolina
Needs: CB, OLB, OL - BNQ=4.0
Gilmore’s ability has his draft stock soaring. If the Cowboys can trade down and still get him then they will be very happy down Dallas way.
#23 - Detroit, Coby Fleener-Tight End, Stanford
Needs: OG, OT, CB, OC - BNQ=4.5
Quite simply, Detroit are very attracted to Tight Ends and feel that a 1-2 punch with Brandon Pettigrew could work as well for them as Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez do for the Patriots. Only time will tell.
#24 - Pittsburgh, Cordy Glenn-Offensive Guard, Georgia
Needs: ILB, NT, OL, S - BNQ=6.7
There are a few options for the Steelers but for a team that likes to go BPA we have them taking Glenn here.
#25 Denver, Rueben Randle-Wide Receiver, LSU
Needs: WR, RB, OL, LB, CB - BNQ=7.5
Denver are looking for running backs and wide receivers to help out new QB Peyton Manning. Rueben Randle is a possession receiver that could become a number one target from very early on.
#26 - Houston, Mike Adams-Offensive Tackle, Ohio State
Needs: OT, NT, OL, DB - BNQ=4.0
There are two camps in mock draft circles right now, those who are in love with Mike Adams and those who aren’t. If Houston are they will feel they are getting the steal of the draft at #26.
#27 - New England (from New Orleans) TRADE with Jacksonville, Stephen Hill-Wide Receiver, Georgia Tech
The Pats are very keen to trade out of this pick and hold on to #31 instead. Hill is a guy that won’t last much longer so the Jags get back into the first round and fulfil a giant need with someone who has a huge upside.
#28 - Green Bay, Nick Perry-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, USC
Needs: OLB, S, DE - BNQ=5.0
If the Packers can improve their pass rush they will be the team to beat again in the NFC. Nick Perry is the guy they will hang their hat on.
#29 - Baltimore, Mark Barron-Strong Safety, Alabama
Needs: LOT, LB, DB, OL - BNQ=6.2
The Ravens will prefer to take BPA so Jerel Worthy is the probable pick here unless they look at replenishing their secondary and then Barron becomes a distinct possibility.
#30 – San Francisco, Jerel Worthy-Defensive Tackle, Michigan State (underclassman)
Needs: DB, WR - BNQ=3.5
It isn’t a need pick but you can’t stockpile enough quality talent and Worthy is just that for Harbaugh and his team.
#31 - New England, Kendall Reyes-Defensive Tackle, Connecticut
Needs: OC, DB, RB, DT - BNQ=4.7
Running back and center are big needs but the Patriot Way is something altogether different and Kendall Reyes fits that mold nicely. He edges out Devon Still and Andre Branch although look for New England to find an RB in round 2.
#32 - NY Giants, #32 - NY Giants, Donta’ Hightower-Inside Linebacker, Alabama (underclassman)
Needs: OT, OL, LB, RB, WR - BNQ=3.0
Giants need assistance across the O-Line, at Linebacker and at Running Back and Receiver. In the end Hightower gives them the biggest upside but RB and WR will be looked at in Round 2. Lamar Miller could be an alternative here.
