NFL Mock Draft Round 1 (NFL Draft Edition)

MOCKNFLDRAFTS final mock - First 2 rounds of mock goodness for you to follow this Thursday and Friday! A redo of the 2nd round and the 3rd round will come out after Thursday night!

#1 - Indianapolis, Andrew Luck QB, Stanford (underclassman)
Needs: QB, CB, OG, DT, OC, ROT - BPA vs Need Quotient=5.7
Indianapolis have informed him, he is 2012’s overall number one draft pick

#2 - Washington (from St. Louis), Robert Griffin III-Quarterback, Baylor
Needs: QB, ROT, CB, S, OG, ILB - BNQ=5.8
The Redskins have made the trade and RGIII is going to Washington.

#3 Minnesota, Matt Kalil-Offensive Tackle, USC (underclassman)
Needs: LOT, FS, DT, WR, OL, DB - BNQ=2.7
There is no doubt the biggest need for the Vikings is corner but they also need a Left Tackle and Kalil is clearly the top tackle in the draft and too hard to pass up here.

#4 Cleveland, Trent Richardson-Halfback, Alabama (underclassman)
Needs: ROT, WR, CB, RB, OG, SS - BNQ=4.0
The Browns could reach for Ryan Tannehill but it seems more likely they will take their chances with Richardson who is the best running back prospect in a number of years.

#5 - Tampa Bay, Morris Claiborne-Cornerback, LSU (underclassman)
Needs: ILB, OLB, CB, RB, OL, ROT - BNQ=5.4
He is the last of the ‘elite five’ and with Claiborne’s college coach now in Tampa and a need at corner it seems like a perfect match.

#6 St. Louis (from Washington), Justin Blackmon-Wide Receiver, Oklahoma State
Needs: LOT, DT, WR, OLB, CB, S - BNQ=4.5
The Rams may look to trade out of this pick or go DT Fletcher Cox. In the end they will have to decide if there is a better chance of getting a good DT with one of their 2 early second round picks or WR. We at www.mocknfldrafts.blogspot.com think a good DT should fall into the 2nd round so the Rams will take Blackmon here.

#7 Jacksonville, TRADE with Kansas City, Ryan Tannehill-Quarterback, Texas A&M
Needs: NT, ILB, OG, OC, QB, DT = BNQ=3.9
Something tells us someone will make a move for Tannehill and it may be more likely it is a team that can sit on him for a year or two. This is a bold move for the Chiefs but the price is right and the Jags want to move down.

#8 Miami, Quinton Coples-Defensive End, North Carolina
Needs: DE, ROT, QB, WR, OG, LB - BNQ=3.4
Miami need a DE badly and after missing out on Tannehill go for Coples instead. Melvin Ingram is another option here but we expect Coples upside will force him off the board ahead of Ingram.

#9 - Carolina, Fletcher Cox-Defensive End/Tackle, Mississippi State
Needs: DT, WR, CB, ROT, OG, LB - BNQ=4.0
Last pick we mused betewen David DeCastro or Fletcher Cox before settling on DeCastro but this time we think Cox may be took good to pass up.

#10 - Buffalo, Stephen Gilmore-Cornerback, South Carolina
Needs: LOT, CB, WR, OLB - BNQ=4.9
It seems almost certain that the Bills will go defense unless Tannehill, Blackmon or Richardson falls to them. With that in mind we think they go for Gilmore who is a super clean prospect that can start right away for the Bills.

#11 Jacksonville (from Kansas City), Michael Floyd-Wide Receiver, Notre Dame
Needs: WR, DE, ROT, TE, CB - BNQ=5.5
Floyd would fit the Jags biggest need but they have multiple options in Ingram, Kirkpatrick, DeCastro or Glenn here.

#12 Seattle, Melvin Ingram-Defensive End, South Carolina
Needs: OLB, DE, RB - BNQ=4.5
A top ten player at a position of need, Seattle will be very happy if Ingram falls to them at #12.

#13 - Arizona, Luke Kuechly-Inside Linebacker, Boston College (underclassman)
Needs: LB, CB, OT, OC, S, OG - BNQ=5.4
It’s a need meets great pick for the Cardinals. However someone may jump ahead of them to get him.

#14 - Dallas, Mark Barron-Strong Safety, Alabama
Needs: CB, OLB, S, LB, DL, IOL - BNQ=4.0
Another player who’s stock has really come on in the last few weeks and can’t see the Cowboys passing him up here.

#15 - Philadelphia, Michael Brockers-Defensive Tackle, LSU
Needs: OLB, DT, CB, S, IOL - BNQ=4.1
The Eagles want to get bigger across the front seven. Brockers is a very exciting prospect and will do exactly that.

#16 – NY Jets, David DeCastro-Offensive Guard, Stanford
Needs: OLB, SS, ROT, NT, WR, RB - BNQ=6.3
The Jets need a pass rush but they also would like to upgrade their offensive line. So the BPA gets the nod over Upshaw, Jones or McClellin

#17 - Cincinnati (from Oakland), Dontari Poe-Nose Tackle, Memphis
Needs: OG, CB, SS, ILB, RB - BNQ=5.3
Poe’s a polarizing figure but if he drops to Cincinnati we here at www.mocknfldrafts.blogspot.com think they’ll pull the trigger with a second pick at #21.

#18 - San Diego, Shea McClellin-Defensive End, Boise State
Needs: ROT, OLB, DG, OG, DL - BNQ=3.7
The Chargers will upgrade their pass rush immediately. McClellin is a guy rising fast and San Diego may take a chance on him above Upshaw, Mercilus and Jones.

#19 - Chicago, Cordy Glenn-Offensive Guard, Georgia
Needs: LOT, DL, CB, TE, IOL, OLB - BNQ=5.0
The Bears need an O-Line upgrade and Glenn fills tackle and guard so might be a stronger option over Reiff, Martin, Massie or Adams

#20 - Tennessee, Chandler Jones-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Syracuse
Needs: CB, DT, OC, WR, S, OG - BNQ=4.4
The Titans could do with a DT like Worthy or Reyes more but they may like Jones so much they take him anyway. If they’d prefer to address need then Kirkpatrick is available in the secondary or Konz at center.

#21 - Cincinnati, Kendall Wright-Wide Receiver/Kick Returner, Baylor
With Poe assisting the defence, Wright will provide a second option for Andy Dalton with AJ Green.

#22 –Cleveland, Riley Reiff-Offensive Tackle, Iowa (underclassman)
Reiff has dropped in some people’s boards due to having short arms and a less than impressive combine. Still if you look at the tape it is hard not to come away satisfied the Iowa underclassman has plenty to offer for the Browns at #22.

#23 - Detroit, Stephen Hill-Wide Receiver, Georgia Tech
Needs: LOT, CB, ROT, FS, OG, OC - BNQ=4.5
Hill will need some time to learn but has a huge upside and the Lions will want someone to take pressure off Calvin Johnson.

#24 - Pittsburgh, Courtney Upshaw-Outside Linebacker/Defensive End, Alabama
Needs: ILB, NT, OG, OT, CB - BNQ=6.7
Upshaw seems to fit with what the Steelers do, Kirkpatrick is another option but his off-field issue may see Pittsburgh prefer Upshaw.

#25 Denver, Dre Kirkpatrick-Cornerback/Punt Returner, Alabama (underclassman)
Needs: DL, IOL, OLB, WR, RB, ILB - BNQ=7.5
It’s not a huge need for the Broncos but Kirkpatrick has fallen in this mock and hard to see them pass him up here.

#26 - Houston, Rueben Randle-Wide Receiver, LSU
Needs: OT, NT, ILB, OLB, DB, OC - BNQ=4.0
They have a need at Offensive Tackle and with Jonathan Martin still there it seems likely they take him, however the Texans would also like someone to take the pressure off Andre Johnson and Randle is a good fit for them.

#27 - New England (from New Orleans) TRADE with Baltimore, Donta’ Hightower-Inside Linebacker, Alabama (underclassman)
Needs: OG, OLB, OC, S, LOT, ILB - BNQ=6.2
The Pats are very keen to trade out of this pick and the Ravens may be worried enough about Green Bay to take their man in Hightower here. A great long-term replacement for Ray Lewis.

#28 - Green Bay, Whitney Mercilus-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Illinois
Needs: OLB, S, CB, DE - BNQ=5.0
If the Packers can improve their pass rush they will be the team to beat again in the NFC. Mercilus stock has dropped a little but is excellent value at #28.

#29 - New England (from Baltimore), Peter Konz-Offensive Center, Wisconsin (underclassman)
Needs: CB, OC, DT, OG, DE, FS - BNQ=4.7
The Pats want Konz and decide to pull the trigger here, it will fill a big need for them.

#30 – San Francisco, Jerel Worthy-Defensive Tackle, Michigan State (underclassman)
Needs: OG, ROT, FS, OC, DE, OLB - BNQ=3.5
It isn’t a need pick but you can’t stockpile enough quality talent and Worthy is just that for Harbaugh and his team.

#31 - New England TRADE with Jacksonville, Brandon Weeden-Quarterback, Oklahoma State
Someone will jump back into the first round for Weeden. The Jags have Gabbert but a new owner and coach want their guy to at least compete for the position and after trading down earlier they have the ammunition to make this move.

#32 - NY Giants, Bobby Massie-Offensive Tackle, Mississippi
Needs: ROT, WR, SS, RB - BNQ=3.0
Massie is raw but the Giants won’t be afraid to take him this high.
