NFL Mock Draft 2012 2nd Round (Week 15 Edition)

Here is the 2nd round of picks for the Week 15 Edition of mocknfldrafts.blogspot.com NFL Mock Draft for 2012...

#33 - Indianapolis, Lamar Miller-Running Back, Miami
After snatching the Luck sweepstakes they get ‘lucky’ twice around as Miller falls to them in a position of dire need.

#34 - Minnesota, Chase Minnifield-Cornerback/Kick Returner, Virginia
Some mockers had the Vikings taking the draft’s top corner in Morris Claiborne due to the need in the secondary, we preferred Justin Blackmon but still get a decent CB with Minnifield in the 2nd round. Minnifield is a kick returner which will take pressure off Percy Harvin who has been in that role.

#35 - St. Louis, Kendall Wright-Wide Receiver, Baylor
Would’ve loved to have picked up Chase Minnifield, instead they will give Bradford a weapon in Kendall Wright who has a first round grade on him.

#36 Tampa Bay, Whitney Mercilus-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Illinois
Tampa almost go corner twice here but in the end settle for DE/OLB Whitney Mercilus. They need a lot of help on the defensive side of the ball, mind you they could really do with an upgrade at WR too and Mohammed Sanu has to be in their thoughts.

#37 Cleveland, Jared Crick-Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Nebraska
Dropping on some boards I still like Crick here as the Browns look to rebuild their defense.

#38 Miami, Dwayne Allen-Tight End, Clemson
Probably the first Tight End off the board here, it’s a position of need and gives RGIII a weapon in his rookie year.

#39 Washington, Mohamed Sanu-Wide Receiver, Rutgers
Speaking of weapons for rookie QB’s, Shanahan needs to give Matt Berkley all the help he can get, Sanu – a Kenny Britt clone – should assist.

#40 Jacksonville, Dwight Jones-Wide Receiver, North Carolina
Disappointed to just miss on Sanu, the Jags will give Gabbert a weapon anyway in Dwight Jones. Nick Toon is another option here.

#41 Carolina, Stephen Gilmore-Cornerback, South Carolina
The choice is between Gilmore and Jayron Hosley as the Panthers continue to upgrade their horrible defense which they believe will help Newton more than any offensive weapons will. They are right.

#42 Kansas City, Alameda Ta’amu-Nose Tackle, Washington
There are quite a few options the Chiefs have including LB, CB and WR but in the end they reach slightly for Ta’amu to take over the middle.

#43 Buffalo, Fletcher Cox-Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State
The Bills addressed their pass rush problems in the first round but they aren’t finished yet. Cox will give presence from the 5 technique to go with Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams in what will truly be a force upfront.

#44 – New England (from Oakland), D.J. Fluker-Tackle, Alabama
If New England keep both their first round picks they are sure to trade one of their second round ones. I contemplated the Giants jumping up for Jayron Hosley or Jonathan Cooper or San Diego for Oday Aboushi or Fluker but in the end went for my top player on the board.

#45 - Seattle, Nick Toon-Wide Receiver, Wisconsin
Seattle improved their O-Line last year and their defense looks sound so it is a continuation of offensive weapons they are looking for and finding in Toon.

#46 - Dallas, Brandon Jenkins-Defensive End, Florida State
Jenkins has been falling down the boards but we still see him being taken by the Cowboys, who desperately need a pass rush, here.

#47 - Philadephia, Ronnell Lewis-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Oklahoma
The Eagles have to address their linebacking needs however there isn’t an obvious choice on the board here. I think a trade is most likely but not being able to find a willing partner they will take Lewis and try to convert him to a 4-3 OLB.

#48 - Philadephia (from Arizona), Oday Aboushi-Tackle, Virginia
The Eagles need more depth on their offensive line and Aboushi could provide it, he has a huge upside and could be groomed on the right side to protect left-handed Michael Vick’s blindside.

#49 - Detroit, Jonathan Cooper-Offensive Guard, UNC
Detroit went away from need in the first round but will come back now they get great value in the underrated Cooper.

#50 - San Diego, Kelechi Osemele-Offensive Tackle, Iowa State
The run on the O-Line is on and Osemele helps the Chargers either on the right side or at guard.

#51 - Cincinnati, Billy Wynn-Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Boise State
The Bengals are pretty firm across their front 7 but with other needs addressed in the first round there is no harm in picking one of the best players on the board here.

#52 - Tennessee, TJ McDonald-Safety, USC
Tennessee are starting to look really strong across the board and their secondary only improves with this ‘bloodlines’ pick at safety.

#53 - Chicago, Nick Perry-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, USC
The push here would be for a WR or even RB but the Bears will wait on those and take one of the best players on the board in Nick Perry who is versatile and would not look out of place in a Chicago uniform. Besides Israel Idonije is a free agent at year’s end.

#54 - NY Giants, Jayron Hosley-Cornerback, Virginia Tech
The Giants would’ve liked a guard and maybe would’ve traded up to get it from New England or Philadelphia. While I contemplate such a manoeuvre for future mocks, right now we will say the Giants are very happy that Hosley fell this far and will continue to sure up their secondary.

#55 - Denver, Jeff Fuller-Wide Receiver, Texas A&M
Ryan Tannehill and Kirk Cousins are on the board if the Broncos get ‘Tebow-shy’ and try and draft a backup. But I think in the end they will go for help for Tebow in a receiver rather than a replacement.

#56 - Houston, Jonathan Banks-Cornerback, Mississippi State
This could be a steal at #56 for a team that could always do with secondary assistance.

#57 – NY Jets, Melvin Ingram-Defensive End, South Carolina
Surprisingly, the Jets have been pretty poor at the pass rush this year so bringing in Ingram should be a big upgrade.

#58 - Atlanta, Vinny Curry-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Marshall
They don’t have a 1st round pick so that will impact on their choices here. While Ben Jones is an option as center they will instead continue their defense revival with the versatile Curry.

#59 – San Francisco, Marvin McNutt-Wide Receiver, Iowa
Is this a reach? Probably. But the Niners need a WR to go to the next step. They probably need a Quarterback too but they will have to come by another fashion.

#60 - New Orleans, Lavonte David-Outside Linebacker, Nebraska
This is a long wait for your first pick of the draft. The Saints look to upgrade at linebacker. Smart move with one of the top players left available.

#61 - New England, Brandon Lindsey-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Pittsburgh
There’s no way the Pats don’t trade at some point by now but if they don’t they have just upgraded at every position of need with some quality players. This would be another steal if it were to occur

#62 - Pittsburgh, Ryan Tannehill-Quarterback, Texas A&M
Quarterbacks rise and Tannehill’s stock is almost certain to but as most teams now have a young QB he may just remain until now in which case the Steelers may just say, why not? It’s a bargain, that is for sure.

#63 - Baltimore, Bruce Irvin-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, West Virginia
The Ravens are another team that find a way to improve every year with a sound draft policy. Irvin is arguably the defensive BPA at this point and would help with getting to the QB.

#64 - Green Bay, Ray Ray Armstrong-Strong Safety, Miami
Green Bay could go Offensive Line here but their woes at safety means instead they will upgrade with Armstrong.
