Mock Draft 2012 2nd Round (Week 16 edition)

Here is the 2nd round of picks for the Week 16 Edition of mocknfldrafts.blogspot.com NFL Mock Draft for 2012, please add your comments. (Note: this updates weekly!)

#33 - Indianapolis, Lamar Miller-Running Back, Miami
After snatching the Luck sweepstakes they get ‘lucky’ twice around as Miller falls to them in a position of dire need.

#34 - St. Louis, Brandon Thompson-Defensive Tackle, Clemson
This guy is big and strong and just what St Louis need up front.

#35 - Minnesota, Mohamed Sanu-Wide Receiver, Rutgers
Apparently Sanu is a Kenny Britt clone, sounds like what the doctor ordered for the Vikings who fill their biggest need now.

#36 - Cleveland, Nick Toon-Wide Receiver, Wisconsin
Cleveland enjoying a luxury of picks this draft have to decide between a Right Tackle and a WR, they go for Toon who has a lot of potential and may end up going higher before all is said and done.

#37 - Tampa Bay, Travis Lewis-Outside Linebacker, Oklahoma
Tampa need a lot of help on the defensive side of the ball and almost go corner here but in the end settle for the interesting prospect of Travis Lewis. Vontaze Burflict is another option for the Bucs who have holes all over the linebacking position.

#38 - Miami, Devon Still-Defensive Tackle, Penn State
It is out of him and TE Dwayne Allen. Still should be a late first rounder but may fall to early second. For a team that need a DT this is too good an opportunity to pass up.

#39 - Buffalo, Brandon Lindsey-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Pittsburgh
The Bills badly need a pass rush and they like big so Lindsey fits the bill at 6-2 at 250lb to play standing up on the outside in the Bills 3-4. 6-3, 265lb Brandon Jenkins is another option here as is 6-2 Bruce Irvin who is a bit smaller than Lindsey at 245lb.

#40 Jacksonville, Vinny Curry-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Marshall
They have a need at DE and Vinny Curry is someone with enough potential to make the Jags new coach and owner pull the trigger here.

#41 Carolina, Andrew Datko-Offensive Tackle, Florida State
LB Vontaze Burflict is dropping while OT Andrew Datko is rising, both are positions of need and the Panthers take Datko to help protect Cam. Also look at Nate Potter or Zebrie Sanders as possibilities here.

#42 Washington, Stephen Gilmore-Cornerback, South Carolina
Gilmore has got potential and Shanahan prefers BPA to reaching. Gilmore will still cover a need at corner although WR was more dire Rueben Randle wasn’t quite the fit the Redskins were looking for and may find someone more enticing in that position in the later rounds.

#43 – TRADE Miami and New England (from Oakland), Dwayne Allen-Tight End, Clemson
If New England keep both their first round picks they are sure to trade one of their second round ones. We’ll say the price is right for this one as Miami move back up to get the tight end they crave.

#44 Kansas City, Alameda Ta’amu-Nose Tackle, Washington
There are quite a few options the Chiefs have including LB, CB and WR but in the end they reach slightly for Ta’amu to take over the middle. Jayron Hosley is another choice as is Sam Montgomery.

#45 - Dallas, Markelle Martin-Free Safety, Oklahoma State
Dallas need a safety and while Mark Barron is still available, Markelle Martin is a better fit at free and may just be the better choice anyways.

#46 - Seattle, Whitney Mercilus-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Illinois
Seattle need a pass rush and Mercilus gives them one, a sound pickup here. Brandon Jenkins is another option here.

#47 - NY Giants, Kevin Zeitler-Offensive Guard, Wisconsin
The Giants would’ve liked a guard and maybe would’ve traded up already to get it but we will say they take a chance on Kevin Zeitler over Kelechi Osemele here as the Giants are a team who aren’t afraid to take someone they like regardless of grade.

#48 - Chicago, Ben Jones-Center, Georgia
Jones grades out well and is not as big a reach as you may expect for a team that needs to replace long-time center Olin Kreutz who left at the start of the season.

#49 - Philadephia (from Arizona), Mark Barron-Strong Safety, Alabama
This is an easy choice for the Eagles who need a strong safety and get the top man in said position at #49. Not bad at all.

#50 - Cincinnati, Billy Wynn-Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Boise State
The Bengals are pretty firm across their front 7 but with other needs addressed in the first round there is no harm in picking one of the best players on the board here. Other options are CB Jayron Hosley or RB’s Chris Polk or David Wilson.

#51 - San Diego, Kelechi Osemele-Offensive Tackle, Iowa State
The run on the O-Line is on and Osemele helps the Chargers either on the right side or at guard.

#52 - Tennessee, Jayron Hosley-Cornerback, Virginia Tech
A tough choice between Hosley and WR Rueben Randle, both in positions of need for the Titans, but in the end the higher grade on Hosley means he gets the nod.

#53 - Detroit, Nate Potter, Offensive Tackle, Boise State
Nate Potter is another upgrade to Detroit’s woeful O-Line, he is a tackle but could just as easily kick into guard.

#54 - Atlanta, Sam Montgomery-Defensive End, LSU
First pick for Atlanta this draft and it is a steal, they really need a LT and TE but right now will settle for Montgomery in another position of need.

#55 - Houston, Zebrie Sanders-Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma State
The Texans need an OT and with Sanders on the board at the right time this is a pretty easy choice. Other alternatives include a corner or guard.

#56 - Pittsburgh, E.J. Manuel
The Steelers like to take BPA and Manuel is pretty much top of the board here and as they need a more capable backup to Ben Roethlisberger than the aging but reliable Charlie Batch they pull the trigger on Manuel who could be a surprise packet in the second round.

#57 - Philadelphia, Brandon Jenkins-Outside Linebacker/Defensive End, Florida State
Philadelphia need bigger bodies across the front 7 and while OLB is a more apt fit (see Lavonte David if he is still available), Jenkins has been falling down the boards and will upgrade on the line in the 4-3 look.

#58 – NY Jets, Jarvis Jones-Outside Linebacker, Georgia (underclassman)
The Jets need a pass rush and Rex Ryan craves the position which makes this choice an obvious one. However the choices are varied included Melvin Ingram or Fletcher Cox at DE or Ronnell Lewis or Nick Perry standing up. In the end they go for the lighter weight in Jones and hope he develops into a Von Miller type.

#59 - Denver, Orson Charles-Tight End, Georgia
There aren’t too many positions that Denver will shun here. They have proven since John Elway and John Fox have taken over to take BPA anyways and they could go for depth at QB, RB or CB or fill needs on both the O and D Lines or receiving. In the end they like Orson Charles out of Georgia, it will give Tebow an out as they develop the option offense for the NFL.

#60 – San Francisco, Marvin McNutt-Wide Receiver, Iowa
Is this a reach? Probably. But the Niners need a WR to go to the next step. They probably need a Quarterback too but they will have to come by another fashion. Other options include Dwight Jones and Rueben Randle or any of Nick Foles, Brandon Weeden, Kirk Cousins, Kellen Moore or Russell Wilson if they are hot on one of those QB options.

#61 - New Orleans, Nick Perry-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, USC
New Orleans need a pass rush and don’t have to look far down their draft board to find options. Nearly went for Bruce Irvin but in the end the slightly bigger body of Nick Perry wins out.

#62 - New England, Fletcher Cox-Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State
The Pats need help up front and Cox is rated quite highly but we have him falling to New England who have a history of going where other teams fear to tread.

#63 - Baltimore, Vontaze Burflict-Inside Linebacker, Arizona State
Like almost all mockers out there, we here at mocknfldrafts.blogspot.com are sure that the Ravens will look for a long-term replacement for Ray Lewis when it is finally time, the mockers only difference is between Donta Hightower and Burflict. As Hightower is long gone on our mock we predict Burflict although look for Bobby Wagner to rise and be an option here also. WR Rueben Randle is another possibility here for a team that likes to go BPA.

#64 - Green Bay, Bruce Irvin-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, West Virginia
The Packers picked up Lavonte David in the first round but he projects inside in a 3-4, Irvin on the other hand will provide a pass rush which the Pack are so desperately looking for.
