Mock Draft 2012 2nd Round (Week 17 edition)

Round 2 of the Draft just may look like this...

#33 - St. Louis, Lavonte David-Outside Linebacker, Nebraska
We like the look of David out of Nebraska and he projects as an outside linebacker in a 4-3 which is a need for the Rams.

#34 - Indianapolis, Jared Crick-Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Nebraska
Indy have needs at D-Line as well as corner or O-Line and maybe even running back. Crick is highly regarded and can play either end or tackle which should be enough for the Colts to pull the trigger.

#35 - Cleveland, Chase Minnifield-Cornerback/Kick Returner, Virginia
The Browns need a CB and Minnifield is a guy that could rise the boards before too long with excellent intangibles and ability as a kick returner. Cleveland have Cribbs but may want to use him more in the offense and less in special teams. Either way this seems like a good choice for a team that likes to pick need but won’t reach too far to do it.

#36 - Minnesota, Jayron Hosley-Cornerback, Virginia Tech
The Vikes continue to go need with CB in Hosley.

#37 - Tampa Bay, Zach Brown-Outside Linebacker, North Carolina
The Bucs use their first two picks to grow their defense. Zach Brown will rush the pass in a 4-3 although they also like the look of Travis Lewis and Vontaze Burfict as alternatives if Brown doesn’t fall this far.

#38 - Jacksonville, Nick Toon-Wide Receiver, Wisconsin
The Jags have a new QB and now they go for Toon at WR who has a lot of potential and may end up going higher before all is said and done.

#39 - Miami, Vontaze Burfict-Inside Linebacker, Arizona State
Burfict as a need is just too tempting for Miami to pass up despite the fact they were eyeing off Kellen Moore at QB. Moore may drop enough for the Dolphins to get both.

#40 - Washington, Nick Foles-Quarterback, Arizona
Foles is the right fit for Shanahan who now has his starting running back and QB.

#41 - Buffalo, Brandon Lindsey-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Pittsburgh
The Bills badly need a pass rush and they like big so Lindsey fits the bill at 6-2 at 250lb to play standing up on the outside in the Bills 3-4. 6-3, 265lb Brandon Jenkins is another option here as is 6-2 Bruce Irvin who is a bit smaller than Lindsey at 245lb.

#42 - Kansas City, Bobby Wagner-Inside Linebacker, Utah State
Wagner’s stock is rising at the right time and KC have a need inside so pull the trigger despite also needing help at tackle.

#43 - Carolina, Andrew Datko-Offensive Tackle, Florida State
Zebrie Sanders is dropping while Andrew Datko is rising, both are considered here and the Panthers take Datko to help protect Cam.

#44 - San Diego, Ronnell Lewis-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Oklahoma
The Chargers are tempted by Brandon Washington to continue upgrading their O-line troubles but in the end settle for Lewis who will fit standing up outside (if they stay a 3-4) or put a hand in the dirt if they switch to a 4-3.

#45 - Chicago, Coby Fleener-Tight End, Stanford
The Bears need a Tight End and instead of fixing their ailing O-Line go for Fleener to continue giving Jay Cutler some options.

#46 - Seattle, Sam Montgomery-Defensive End, LSU
The sophomore dropped into the 2nd round but the slide stops at Seattle who think Montgomery can fix their pass rush problems.

#47 - Dallas, Stephen Gilmore-Cornerback, South Carolina
Gilmore has got potential and fits in better than SS Mark Barron despite the fact Barron grades higher and the Cowboys have needs all over their secondary.

#48 - Philadelphia, Zebrie Sanders-Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma State
It’s hard to see the Eagles passing up on Sanders at this point particularly with another pick in the back pocket coming right up.

#49 - Philadelphia (from Arizona), Whitney Mercilus-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Illinois
The Eagles need to get bigger and find a pass rush, Mercilus gives them one, a sound pickup here. Bruce Irvin, Travis Lewis or Brandon Jenkins are other options.

#50 - NY Jets, Bruce Irvin-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, West Virginia
The Jets went CB in the first round, Irvin now gives them the pass rush they are so desperately looking for.

#51 - Cincinnati, Billy Wynn-Defensive End/Defensive Tackle, Boise State
The Bengals are pretty firm across their front 7 but with other needs addressed in the first round there is no harm in picking one of the best players on the board here. Other options are OLB’s Brandon Jenkins or Travis Lewis or RB’s Chris Polk or David Wilson.

#52 - Tennessee, Rueben Randle-Wide Receiver, Oklahoma
Randle isn’t the quickest option out there but he does give Jake Locker a better option than the current stable of receivers the Titans have so he is the choice here.

#53 - NY Giants, Brandon Washington-Offensive Guard, Miami
Not sure which direction the Giants will take as running back and OLB are definitely on the cards and at the right price here but Washington is a good looking prospect that seems like a steal at this point.

#54 - Atlanta, Orson Charles-Tight End, Georgia
Needs: LOT, TE, DB, DE - BNQ=3.3
The Falcons like to take need and have little option as this is their first pick of the draft so Charles is the obvious choice over reaching for a tackle or DB.

#55 - NY Giants (from Houston through New England), David Wilson-Running Back, Virginia Tech
The Pats continue to accumulate draft picks as the Giants see a need at RB and pull the trigger.

#56 - Pittsburgh, Alameda Ta’amu-Nose Tackle, Washington
The Steelers like to take BPA but Ta’amu is on their radar and if not already taken is a great pickup for Pittsburgh at NT.

#57 - New England (from Oakland), Mark Barron-Strong Safety, Alabama
With two trades conducted already I don’t see the Pats making it 3 and instead pick up a position of need in Mark Barron, a veritable steal.

#58 - Denver, Tyler Eifert-Tight End, Notre Dame
The Broncos need an out for the option and they believe Eifert is the best man to provide it

#59 - Detroit, Nate Potter, Offensive Tackle, Boise State
Nate Potter is another upgrade to Detroit’s woeful O-Line, he is a tackle but could just as easily kick into guard.

#60 - San Francisco, Tommy Streeter-Wide Receiver, Miami (Fla.)
Is this a reach? Probably. But the Niners need a WR to go to the next step. They probably need a Quarterback too but they will have to come by another fashion. Other options include Brian Quick or Dwight Jones or any of Brandon Weeden, Kirk Cousins, Kellen Moore or Russell Wilson if they are hot on one of those QB options.

#61 - New Orleans, Brandon Thompson-Defensive Tackle, Clemson
Needs: OT, DE, DT, OLB - BNQ=4.8
This guy is big and strong and just what the Saints require for their first pick of the draft. Brandon Jenkins is also a strong possibility.

#62 - New England, Chris Polk-Running Back, Washington
DB is the likely option but Polk offers more at RB than either Markelle Martin or Trumaine Johnson do at this point.

#63 - Baltimore, Travis Lewis-Outside Linebacker, Oklahoma
Baltimore look at the  interesting prospect of Travis Lewis not necessarily to replace namesake Ray but will make that linebacking corps of theirs look even fiercer.

#64 - Green Bay, Brandon Jenkins-Outside Linebacker/Defensive End, Florida State
It’s between Jenkins and Vinny Curry although Sean Spence could surprise but the pass rush is wanting to be addressed and safety help will come in the next round although Antonio Allen could jump up here.
